Here is another scam we should know about!  Jessie Schmidt of the Better Business Bureau in Sioux Falls says this scam aims to convince you that you've won money in a foreign lottery.

"This scam has been going on for years and years.  You get a mailing stating you have won a lottery.  Maybe, you've won it by shopping at local stores or that you're enrolled in a foreign lottery.  There are a couple different angles to it.  The one that seems to catch the most people is where they call you and tell you that you are the grand prize winner of a lottery,  Here's the catch:  you need to pay the taxes up front.  They tell you how to wire your money---and you receive nothing."

In fact, Jessie Schmidt says foreign lotteries are illegal in the U.S.

"These lotteries are against the law.  Foreign lotteries are not legal in our country.  If you come across a letter indicating you are the winner of one of these lotteries,  throw it in the trash or shred it."
