If you want to get a good look at movie stars, head to Hollywood or New York City. If you want to get a good luck at actual stars, you can stay right here in the Upper Midwest.

The celestial light shows in the Badlands are so well known that the park offers a weekly 'Night Sky Program' at the Cedar Pass Campground Amphitheater, on Friday through Monday nights. During the program, park rangers point out constellations, stars, and planets.

Every Summer, the park hosts the South Dakota Badlands Astronomy Festival, a free event (with paid park admission) that allows stargazers to see up to 7,500 twinkles of light on cloudless nights.

This year's festival runs July 8-10, 2016.
