For fans of southern rock we know we’ve got to thank Lynyrd Skynyrd for paving the way in that whiskey and moonshine-fueled genre of music. But did you know we could thank ZZ Top for giving us the gift of Skynyrd? Billy Gibbons recalls the time when they gave Lynyrd Skynyrd an opportunity to open for them while on tour in the early 70s.

In the meantime, fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd will want to keep their eye out for the documentary If I Leave Here Tomorrow which will be released on Showtime on August 18.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has sold over  28 million records in the United States. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006.

We will also want to keep October 12 open on the calendar as Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Last of the Street Survivors tour comes through the Denny Sanford Premier Center with special guests the Marshall Tucker Band.
