Every year, Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute to those who died is notable as much for who wasn't included as for who was. Oscar producers have always claimed to do their best to include everyone, but invariable every year, notable actors, directors and producers are left out and this year was no different. So, who was snubbed from the 2014 Oscar "In Memoriam" tribute?
The 2014 Oscars were loooong. In fact, we can't be entirely sure that they're not still going on somewhere. So, you can't be blamed if you took a pee break, got up to get some snacks and/or dozed off and missed something. It's OK, we got your back. In case you missed anything, we have a full list of all the Oscar winners, plus this quick handy wrap-up of all the other fun moments you may have missed.
Billions of people watched the 2014 Oscars around the world, so it's no surprise that when host Ellen DeGeneres took a selfie with Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper and more, it was going to be popular. How popular? It broke Twitter.
Harold Ramis, the star of 'Ghostbusters,' writer of 'Animal House' and director of 'Caddyshack' and 'Groundhog Day,' has died at the age of 69 in Chicago. Ramis had been suffering from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis and had been in declining health since 2010.
The 2014 Oscar nominations were announced this morning by 'Thor 2' star Chris Hemsworth and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. So who are the 2014 Oscar nominees? Who were the big surprises and the big snubs? Find out!
2013 was a thrilling year for cinema, from witnessing a newly minted Superman breaking in his wings to getting delightfully conned by a man with a combover to reaching new depths of outer space. But which do you think is the best movie of 2013?
The 2014 Golden Globes nominations are in and we already can’t wait for the awards ceremony! While the Oscars ceremony has Ellen DeGeneres hosting, comedic duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are returning to host the Globes, which is awesome if you saw the hilarious job they did last year. But enough of that, let’s get down to the list of nominees!
'American Hustle' and '12 Years a Slave' were the big winners in the movie categories, with a total of seven nominations each. 'Nebraska' received five nominations while 'Captain Phillips' and 'Gravity' tied for third with four nominations. Notable snubs include Martin Scorsese not getting nominated as Best Director for 'Wolf of Wall Street' and 'The Butler' was completely shut out after a strong performance at the SAG Awards nominations. Despite two acting awards for Julia Roberts and Meryl Street, 'August: Osage County' wasn't nominated for Best Picture, which could seriously hurt its promises at the Oscars. Also interesting was the lack of Pixar - 'Monsters University' was passed over as Best Animated Feature in favor of 'Frozen,' a Disney animated film made outside of Pixar.
Before you get too excited or too upset, the Golden Globes have been fairly unreliable as a predictor of Oscar success, sharing a Best Picture winner only 33% of the time since 2003 (when the Academy moved the Oscar ceremony a month earlier).
On the TV side, 'House of Cards,' 'The White Queen' and 'Behind the Candelabra' both received four nominations with 'Breaking Bad' bringing in three in its last season.
Aziz Ansari, Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana joined the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to announce the 2014 Golden Globes nominations.
The 2014 Golden Globes awards ceremony will be be broadcast live on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on NBC. Until then, check out the list of nominations below as they are announced.
Last week, Batkid took San Francisco (and the internet) by storm, as tens of thousands of volunteers worked together with the Make-a-Wish foundation to help fulfill the dream of Miles, a 5-year-old boy suffering from leukemia. Miles loves Batman so the entire town transformed into Gotham City and let Miles (as Batkid) help Batman defeat the Riddler and save the day. He's the hero we deserve and the hero we need right now, so it's only fitting Batkid should get his own movie poster.
Surprise, no one! 'Modern Family,' a show that has been nominated 57 times since it's debut and won Outstanding Comedy Series the last three years, once again won the Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2013 Emmy Awards.
