As if video game nostalgia weren't enough to get audiences into the theater, 'Wreck-it Ralph,' which opens November 2, has been laying out more and more content to get people excited. The latest are two featurettes that highlight the making of the film, and the voice cast, which includes John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch.
Though he doesn't have the drawing power of the 'Twilight' franchise, Nicholas Sparks and films based on his work have become a cinematic sub-genre of modest success. Films like 'The Notebook,' 'Dear John' and 'The Lucky One' have been box office hits on a small scale. The latest Sparks film adaptation is 'Safe Haven.' And now it has a trailer.
Michael Bay played footsies for a while with doing more 'Transformers' movies, but has signed up for a fourth film, because... well, money. Lots and lots of it. Bay earned $80 Million from the first film (which is the lowest grossing film of the franchise), and gets 8% of the merchandising money, so it's safe to assume that he makes over $100 Million a sequel. But it looks like he's bringing in a new lead.
The 'Iron Man 3' trailer. It's finally here, after a number of trailer teasers. And you get a good look and listen to Ben Kingsley's Mandarin, a taste of Guy Pearce's role in the film, and the sense that this is a film of scale, and that nothing is going to come easy for Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.
'Cloud Atlas' opens Friday, and it's the sort of picture that will have people raving about it, one way or the other. Our own Matt Singer gave it an 8 out of 10, where others are calling it one of the best films of the year. The actors involved seemed to love making it, or at least that's the impression they give in this new featurette.
One of the biggest critical darlings of 2012 has to be Leos Carax's 'Holy Motors,' which is just now hitting America starting with a two screen run in New York. It's slowly going to be coming across the country, and now there's an official trailer for the U.S. And it looks bonkers.
'The Man with the Iron Fists' has been pummeling us with character-based teasers, and today we get two more. One for Russell Crowe's character Jack Knife, and one for David Bautista's character Brass Body. Watching both promos in quick succession will get co-writer/director/star RZA's music stuck in your head.
We've been hearing about David Fincher tackling '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' for a couple of years now, and it it's already gone through a number of writers, including Andrew Kevin Walker, Scott Z. Burns, and is currently being worked on by Steve Zaillian. But it looks like Disney getting ready to move forward as they've placed a hold on the director for the next three months, and it sounds like they're courting Brad Pitt to play the lead.
'Alex Cross' doesn't open until Friday and we just reviewed it unfavorably, but that's not stopping Tyler Perry and book writer James Patterson from finalizing a deal on a sequel called 'Double Cross.'
