If you love your pet, never leave a dog alone in a hot car! Cars heat up fast and dogs can die from heatstroke. Oh, and one more thing, if you happen to see a dog inside a car and you try to save it by smashing the window open, you might get arrested.

That's what happened in Athens, Georgia, where an Army veteran smashed a car window to free a dog inside a hot car, but he was still arrested.

Michael Hammonds heard someone say that there was a dog in distress in a hot car. so without hesitation, he grabbed his wife's wheelchair leg, he smashed the window, freeing the dog. But the owner of the Mustang calms she was only in the store for five minutes. Hammonds was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing. As for the owner of the car, she was issued a citation.

Georgia state law does allow an individual to break a window to save a child in a hot or cold car, but not a pet. Animal advocates say they are working to change.
