It’s not official yet, but the rumblings started soon after the NBADL Showcase that guard Andre Dawkins is getting a serious look from the Boston Celtics.

For Dawkins personally, it’s a testament to what he can offer to an NBA club.  However, the good news could be tinged with bitterness for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.  Such is the nature of professional basketball where your teammate could soon become your opponent.  In this instance Dawkins could suit up against the ‘Force.

Remember when the Miami Heat called up Hassan Whiteside from the Iowa Energy?  Soon after the promotion, Miami assigned Whiteside to Sioux Falls for a game against the Energy.  Whiteside held nothing back against his former mates with a 21-point, 12-rebound, 4-block performance.

It’s a good news-bad news scenario this time turning against Sioux Falls because Andre Dawkins could get a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics.  Should the deal become official, the initial plan will have Dawkins learn the Boston system on assignment with affiliate Maine before deciding if Dawkins will earn a spot with the C’s for a second 10-day deal or even the rest of the season.*  The Skyforce play at the Red Claws on Saturday and Dawkins will find himself in the home team’s uniform.  More details regarding this scenario is found in a report from CSNNE (Comcast-New England).

*NBA teams can offer a maximum of two 10-day contracts before needing to either sign a player for the long term or cut ties.

Dawkins has shown the potential to get a stroke going as his stats indicate from his time in the D-League.  Nearly 23 points per game over 11 outings and hitting over half of his shots from long distance made Dawkins a candidate for a return to the Association which would make 10 former Skyforce players on NBA rosters this year.
