Amy Adams to Tackle Janis Joplin in Lee Daniels’ ‘Get It While You Can’
Amy Adams is likely on her way to a fourth Oscar nomination for her intense work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘The Master‘; actually, it could end up being her first (overdue) win. But if she doesn’t bring home a statue that evening, she’ll probably get another shot during the 2014 Oscars, as the actress is set to play Janis Joplin for ‘Precious’ director Lee Daniels. And that simply sounds like gold to us.
Adams and Daniels’ Joplin biopic, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is titled ‘Get It While You Can’, and it’s just the latest attempt to get a proper film about the raspy-voiced singer off the ground. Adams was attached to a version that was to be directed by Fernando Meirelles in 2010, but that obviously never materialized. Renee Zellweger and Zooey Deschanel were also linked to Joplin pics, but ‘Get It While You Can’ appears to be the one that will successfully bring her story to the big screen.
Joplin’s story is, of course, ready-made for the movie treatment — filled with highs and lows (literally), the singer achieved fame during the psychedelic ’60s for her unforgettable stage presence and classic songs like “Summertime,” “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart.” She died of a drug overdose in 1970 at the age of 27.
