Joe Perry is pumping the brakes on the talk surrounding a farewell tour for Aerosmith, saying the band is still taking things one step at a time. He's also striking a conciliatory tone about singer Steven Tyler's solo pursuits, despite some earlier jabs.

Tyler began the public ruminations on holding a final Aerosmith tour, perhaps as early as 2017. But not so fast, says his longtime bandmate. “It’s one of many things we’ve talked about as a band, but I don’t know if it’s the end," Perry tells Guitar World. "We take it from album to tour and day to day. It’s the same philosophy we’ve always had."

Besides, the guitarist added, even if Aerosmith mount a series of farewell dates, they're likely to extend for a very long time. "It could go on for two years," he said. "There are still a lot of places we haven’t played yet that we want to play. More to follow – let's just put it that way."

Meanwhile, Tyler just released the title track from his upcoming country-themed solo album, We're All Somebody from Somewhere, due on July 15..That project has given Perry an opportunity to work with the Hollywood Vampires, while Aerosmith bandmate Tom Hamilton is touring this summer with Thin Lizzy.

“I’m really happy he did it because he’s been talking about it for years," Perry said of Tyler's debut solo LP. "It’s given us a chance to take a break and has worked out well for everyone that he’s finally getting to do it. I know he’s doing some gigs and going on the road after he releases the record, but the main thing is he’s having fun doing it. That’s why you do a solo record -- to explore new music and work with different musicians. As long as he’s doing what he wants, that’s what counts."
