The National Weather Service has given a preliminary rating of EF-1 to a tornado that touched down Saturday night in northeastern South Dakota. The twister was confirmed on the ground about 4 miles northeast of Ipswich and damaged several buildings on a farm.

Another tornado touched down about 7 miles west of Cresbard, but there were no reports of damage.

It was a rather violent night for weather in Sioux Falls too as nearly 3,000 residents were without power after 60 mph winds were recorded early Sunday morning after a fast moving storm rolled through.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
