7 Things I Wish People Would Do on Facebook

Clipart

About a month ago, the Huffington Post had an article about the most hated things people do on Facebook. Posting photos of your food will usually do the trick. But it was mostly the same things that drive everyone crazy. I decided to spin the same concept the other way. Here are seven things that I wish people would do on Facebook.

1

Make Me Laugh

Some people like to complain. Some like to brag. Some endlessly post pictures of their precious little angels. But some people never even try to make people laugh. Lighten up and make a joke!

Give Me Useful Information

Whether it is a link to "10 Things We Waste Money On" or a status that says "Accident on I-229 and Minnesota." That's useful. Posting a photo of snow, that most of the people you are friends with drove in that morning, is not useful. It's not even interesting. That is out everyone's window. The only exception is if the photo was taken on the Fourth of July and you're in South Dakota.

Please Withhold Some Personal Details

If you're barfing all of the details of your life onto your friends on Facebook, fine, we've come to expect that. But I don't need to know that you are barfing, when you're menstruating, PMS-ing, have or had diarrhea, or when your colonoscopy is happening or happened.

Finish Your Thought

"FML, I can't deal with today."

"If you can't say something nice about someone..."

"Why is this happening to me?"

These are all incomplete thoughts that beg for questions. Stop it. Give the full story or keep it to yourself. If you don't want people to know what it is that's bothering you, but still want sympathy, grow up. No one wants to feel sorry for you without a reason.

Be Genuine for a Change

Every "friend" of mine on Facebook does one of two things; posts flattering photos of themselves or posts no photos of themselves and only puts up photos of things, places, or their kids.

Maybe you're not the hottie you were back in the day. I sure as hell am not. Post a photo of yourself that is genuine; no makeup, just in sweats the way you really look in the morning, that chunk of food that's been in your teeth all night that you just noticed. But try being genuine.

Cute Kid Photos That Don't Work Out

Now that we don't have film in our cameras, we don't have to be careful about wasting shots. Crystal tried to get a cute photo of me and the kids in our Vikings gear before the game last week. Rockley wanted nothing to do with it, was crying and kept jumping off my lap onto the floor. Esia kept flipping himself backwards. Jackie kept scooting around on the arm rest of the chair. We finally got the shot, after 20 or so tries, but this photo of the chaos was my favorite.

Don't Post Pictures of Food, Post Pictures of Random Things That Aren't Food

Seeing food posted on Facebook is annoying. But it has gotten better. I don't see it nearly as much as I used to. What I do like seeing are random pictures of anything but food. This is one I randomly took in my office of a jumping mummy toy I got in a Halloween gift. (You can see this marvel in action here if you want.)
