5 New South Dakota Properties Listed on National Register

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Five South Dakota properties have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The South Dakota State Historical Society says the five structures are at least 50 years and have historical significance.

The five structures are made up of a home in Pierre, cabins in Deadwood and Hill City, a chapel in Rapid City and a historic district in Yankton.

The earliest structure built of the five is the Pearson Cabin in the Deadwood vicinity, which was built in 1876.

State historic preservation officer Jay Vogt says that when properties get listed on the National Register, it shows owners take pride in preserving culture, heritage and history.
