3 Dead in California Indian Reservation Shooting

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Church bells have chimed in honor of three people killed in a shooting that also wounded a fourth person on an Indian reservation in California.

Authorities say 31-year-old Hector Celaya also shot and wounded his two daughters, ages 5 and 8, who were with him in the vehicle when he was apprehended about 2 a.m. Sunday. It was unclear when the girls were shot. One girl suffered life-threatening injuries while the other girl was less seriously hurt.

Officials say Celaya died Sunday, hours after he was wounded during gunfire with Tulare County sheriff's deputies as he tried to flee in a vehicle.

The initial took place at the Tule Indian Reservation. A motive for the attacks was not immediately known. Tribal council secretary Rhoda Hunter says the suspected shooter had what she described as a "real hard life."
